Continuing Development!
Hello! I'm happy to announce that Birthday Planning Panic! has been selected as a Winner of the Diversify Mobile Game Jam 2023!!
I will be actively continuing to develop this game until its full completion and further, and I aim to publish BPP! on the Google Play Store within the first half of January. As I'm currently on winter break and ironically do not really celebrate the holidays very much, there should be a lot of rapid progress within the next few weeks. Please look forward to it!
First, some Devlog notes! I hope to release these as I make progress to keep track and provide updates to anyone interested.
Version 0.6.0?
- I've renamed the versions, with a rough estimate of progress wherein 1.0.0 is fully completed. (Currently v0.6.)
- UI has been implemented for Stats & Date/Week info display.
- Currently, stats are displayed via. Text in the UI as intended, but am looking into integrating bars for players' easy visual processing. Ideally, this will be in the form of text overlaid on (or backed by) bars.
- Soon to fully remove the stat updates that occur via. text at the start/end of a Day.
- Code has slightly organized to better reflect status updates via. timing according to the dialogue. Didn't realize until implementation that I didn't have to initialize variable updates or manually re-call the UI screens for each scene, as it does it live and automatically the moment a variable is changed.
- Also appears during the Action Menu screen, as planned in the design documentation.

- The Actions Menu UI has also been updated to more closely reflect the design documentation, wherein action effect displays occur without changing the scene or exiting the Action Menu.
- Began setting up the Action Menu code in anticipation of the Action-In-Progress UI implementation and further content (text & CGs) display.
- Fixed critical bug during Venue Event Goal Booking phase
- Fixed an important but overlooked bug during Guest & Invites Booking phase where in certain cases it wouldn't properly register or update Guest List size due to missed or bugged Venue selection settings.
- Fixed other bugs related to EventGoals, such as counters not iterating to the correct variable and thus skipping phases/content
- Implemented Fail States based on insufficient money during Booking prompts.
- Stress now accumulates during Fail States as intended (triggering Booking phase of Planning actions without sufficient money for the minimum cheapest possible option)
- Failed Event Goals due to lack of Planning progression implemented. The game now properly registers AND responds when you miss a weekly Event Goal.
- Secret free options for all four Event Goals are properly implemented.
- Insufficient funds should now register across the board whenever there is an action or event involving subtracting money.
I might've missed a few things here or there, but that's the gist of the changes/updates since the initial release.
Next up is the completion of the UI (Action-In-Progress) including CG dimensions and placeholders. I've also begun designing the characters and planning formatting and composition for CGs and alternate CGs based on player choice throughout gameplay, but will mainly be focusing on finishing the base programming and design implementation first.
